Earlier this week, Athletics Canada released a statement regarding “Sport without Abuse†and explained their support for the four brave women who stepped into the spotlight to speak publicly regarding the topic of harassment in sport. The courage of athletes Geneviève Simard, Amélie-Frédérique Gagnon, Gail Kelly and Anna Pruchal set an incredible example to young athletes across all sports that harassment should not be tolerated.
We are in complete agreement with Athletics Canada that athletes and parents, as well as anyone else involved in sport, needs to trust the entire sport system with their safety. Safety should be understood, expected and applied to everyone, no matter which sport they choose to participate in.
You can find more information regarding Athletics Canada’s initiative on their website.
As a provincial organization, Athletics Ontario supports Athletics Canada on their #AbuseFreeSport initiative. We want to remind our members that Athletics Ontario also has a Harassment Policy for all AO members.
You can find the policy on our website here.Â
